I Love Hockey...

On this the morning of the start of the Stanley Cup Finals I am thinking about how much I love hockey. I really owe my love for the game to my brother. He was patient enough to explain the basics of the game and to me back in 2009-2010 when the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup. Before that I had been to a couple of games and knew that to score the opposing team had to get the puck in the net. Over the last two years I have completely fallen in love with hockey for a couple of reasons, the first being is that it is choreographed chaos. There are these men wearing all this cumbersome looking gear, dancing up and down the ice on skates, twisting, turning, stopping on a dime, changing direction all while chasing a puck, passing it to one another and making it look completely effortless. I am mesmerized by this because honestly I have a hard time walking and chewing gum. What these guys do on ice on those skates is brilliant. I also love the sound the skates make on the ice. It is rich with texture and is the background music for this beautiful production. The puck connecting with the stick and then bouncing off the boards or the glass is the dialogue and it fills the venue with the desire and the need of the players to score a goal. I enjoy the fights. Again, I think it is because I am amazed that these boys are on skates and in a split second the gloves are on the ice and punches are being thrown. Plus they are allowed to fight until someone falls to the ice and only then do the refs step in to separate them. The last thing and my most favorite reason why I love hockey (turning into a total fangirl now)is that the boys are so lovely to look at even if they are missing some teeth. Hockey boys are super manly and super hot. Like I said earlier, the Stanley Cup Finals start tonight and my beloved Blackshawks are going against the Boston Bruins and I am very excited. I feel my boys can win the whole thing because I know they have more talent than they have actually used to get to this point. I like to think they were saving it up for this moment. Go Blackhawks!!!!
